Why does it take so long to dig up the treasure chest in virtual villagers a new home?

They have been working on it for about 3 hours or so, and it seems like there is nothing there. I have like 4 villagers working on it.

  1. If you have more villagers then get them to help out. Sometimes everyone can help out temporarily.
