My key will go in and turn on the radio and so forth, but when it gets to the position right before cranking the car, it locks up. Ive got a 99 ford contour. And the steering wheel is not locked up. What can I do?

  1. yeah, sounds as if you do need to replace the lock cylinder, especially if you have already jiggled with the steering wheel, my 95 pontiac cost me 250 bucks, they tried to get more, but i said that was my final price and not a cent more

  2. Make sure its in park, spray some lube inside key lock or replace the lock assembly.

  3. replace lock..

  4. some of the fords have defective ignition locks you have to get it fixed before the key locks in there or the mechanic will have to drill to get it out
