Why does lichen abundance increase as the light intensity increases.

  1. Lichens  are symbiotic associations of a fungus (the mycobiont) with a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont also known as the phycobiont) that can produce food for the lichen by photosynthesis.  Thus increasing light intensity will increase photosynthesis and productivity of the photobiont and result in increased growth just as green plants grow better in increased light.
