I've been running for a while now (about 5 years) and on the last hill workout my lower back started to hurt. Anyone have any suggestions on how to heal it? I'm 15 years old

  1. You need to rest it for a couple of days and take ibuprofen (advil or generic) one or two times a day to relieve the inflammation. Using a heating pad will also help.  It would help to make sure you have adequate cushion in your shoes and always wear running shoes.  Good running shoes are expensive but your joints and muscles are worth it.

After resting your back a couple of days, ease back into your workout routine. Also, take an ibuprofen (or two, depending on how big you are) BEFORE your workout and put an ice pack on the area right after you finish.  Then, a few hours after your workout, you can use the heating pad (or icy hot, if you prefer).  Do that a couple of times and if you aren't having problems you can probably just go back to your normal routine.

  2. try to strengthen your core muscles it works wonders for back ache

  3. i ran for 14 years straight...started at 8..it only gets worst..try running on softer surfaces

  4. stretch.

that hot and icy thing, that huge basketball player showed on comercial

stop running for awhile (2 weeks at least)

and probably keep your head up while running and chest out.

go swimming. when you are not running.

  5. too much pressure on your back. i get knees hurt after I run. just stretch your back while you run

  6. Thats normal, it happened to me when I was 16 and on cross country.  Just take 2 weeks off and perfrom stretchs everyday.

  7. Try focusing on keeping your hamstrings stretched out. I've had back issues off an on the whole time I've been running (9 years) and believe it or not your back can get sore if your hamstrings are tight.
