why many questions US while it is obvious that many of its signatories are not doing the terms of the treaty? take China, for example, is now building on average one coal-fired power plant every week. even India, why India is not included in the framework of this treaty? have they gone mad? this treaty must be ratified and tightened because almost all of the main players of this treaty are not doing the terms. this treaty will not be able to reduce global warming effects if this continues. any opinions?

  1. India and china are both included but they have far less restrictions on there emissions then devolped countries because they already emit far less per person then developed countries.

edit there are less restriction placed on devolping coultries because they do not have the infrastructure to make the move to a low carbon economy without major economic troubles. they have also emitted less then first world countrys with about 80% of all the human emitted CO2 has come from the first world.

  2. yes, you are right. this treaty leads to nothing because countries that emits the most is not doing the terms. it will be really better if they change the terms of the treaty so that it coud be more effective to save the environment. Un must act now before emissions of other countries gets bigger.

  3. How many specifically can you find that are meeting the agreed upon terms? Not many.

  4. >>>it is Galileo Galilee. he got capital punishment because he contradicted many of the Church's teachings during that time. he was also excommunicated by the Church because of his discoveries.>>>

    Wrong on both counts.

Galileo was never sentenced to death.  He died of natural causes.

He certainly was never sentenced to death by the Church -- the Church had absolutely no authority to execute anyone.

    And Galileo was never excommunicated.

He was simply asked to prove his theories before going around teaching them to be true -- which any institution, be it the Church or the scientific community, is entirely reasonable in doing.

  5. If you wanted an example of a country not meeting its Kyoto commitments, it is  easy to finger Canada, committed to reduce emissions to 6% below 1990 levels by 2012 but  emitting more than 30% Above 1990 LEVELS and increasing every year.

Canada of course is producing a lot of emissions in producing oil from tar sands for the USA, so we should tag the emissions to USA, and over half of China's emissions are in support of exports, so about 1/4 should be tagged to USA as consumer of them.

USA has reduced emissions by closing plants at home, and buying from abroad. But there is no net reduction in emissions.

Kyoto targets are so trivial that even if all the world met all targets, we would not be reducing global warming. We knew that when Kyoto was drafted. What Kyoto represents is the most the original participants felt that would be politically possible.  I do not see any great upswelling of eagerness to do even the minimum needed to stabilize temperature augmentation which would be 80% below 1990 levels.

  6. China isn't interested in cutting their industrial output.  They haven't even honoured the Montreal Protocol, you can see Chinese companies selling R12 quite literally by the ton.

CFC's are still the refrigerant of choice throughout most of the world.  The Chinese make R134a mainly for export to the US and the EU.

The theory of ozone depletion is quite speculative.  The 'hole' in the ozone layer has been there for as long as we've been able to observe it and for all we know it's an entirely natural phenomenon.  China isn't going to sacrifice their economic growth because of some unfavourable politics in the West.

  7. simply because US (with GB) is today's world power. as such, they are expected to always participate in global issues.
