  1. the gruntint actually helps with the shot, that is why so many do it..... but it also turns me on a little bit haha

  2. Breathing in through the nostrils and exhaling forcefully through the mouth is a way of breath control that is a mantra of almost every professional sport and martial art.

Exhaling at the point of exertion focuses your energy, ensures you aren't putting extra stress on your body and keeps oxygen circulating.

She really goes for each shot so I think the sound is pretty genuine. But once it gets to a certain level I'm not sure myself haha.

  3. Because she's a good player and so hot! If a player does not have these qualities, she does not have the right to grunt like Maria.

  4. venting off anger maybe?

  5. She's emotional and reaching out to guys.

  6. a lot of players do this grutting after the shot, i think its just a bad habbit that has came along with their game training, a lot of men also yell when thet hit the  ball,i guess they have never tried chewing gum when they play!!!

  7. Nononono!!!!!!!!

Grunting and screaming has some how become something to do while playing tennis.  It is a ridiculous fad!  Nobody did this in the 70's and so on...

    It is so STUPID.

I play and have never made a noise like that!  Think of baseball players, they hit 95+mph balls and THEY don't make noises like that!!!!  When you play golf you aren't making noises like that.

It isn't just her, it is all tennis players (for the most part), and she is just one of the few who are SUPER annoying.

  8. as an athlete myself, grunting or making sound is to lessen the tension and to avoid abdominal cramps as one yells air comes out from within.

  9. Well put toma!! I cannot watch her games as my ears will start to bleed. AND she is not the only one. I think the Womans final will also be marred by hideous grunting noises.

I watched an interview a while back with john Newcombe and he says they do it to mask the sound of the ball coming off the raquet so the opposition cant tell how the ball hase been hit. Sometimes, if you look and listen closely, the grunt actually comes after the ball has been struck and not during.

I have said it before here, I wish someone playing these grunters would walk off the court and refuse to play until the noise stopped. I also believe that they tested that level of the grunt/screech and the results put the noise at some ridiculous sound level so high it qualified as noise pollution??

SHUT UP AND PLAY THE GAME!!
