I was chewing mint flavored gum and decided i wanted water, so I went to the water fountain. the water was already kind of cold but I had mint flavored gum in my mouth and it made the water seem like it was freezing I could not even drink it! Has this happened to anyone else? If so why dose mint seem to make things colder?

  1. I dont know why it is but I get this feeling right after I brush my teeth with a really minty toothpaste and then have a drink or rinse my mouth, it almost hurts its so cole yet so refreshing all at the same time!

  2. Not only water but taking in air through ur lips also makes it cold. This is because mint is aromatic, ie contains chemicals that trigger such reactions( due to nitrogenous groups present in the molecules), thyme, eucalyptus, camphor, clove also have similar chemicals and are used as pain relievers.

  3. Im no science guy, probably because it has that cooling effect.

Oh. the same thing happen if you drink warm water or hot after eating anything that's minty
