Why does modern music seem to have no melody ?

Question

I'm not that old, but artists like whitney,gloria estefan,bee gees,sinatra,etc all seem to have such great songs written for them.

Now it is just a back beat and some sort of hippity hoppity chant going on that i can`t understand!

Progress i suppose, sometimes some come along like, k melua,m buble, etc

A guy works in here and sometimes has this hip hop on over the speaker system and it is like a road drill!

Why can they not compose songs like they uesd to with melody and a tune?

I agree to a degree. There are still bands now that can write a decent melody the problem is they don't get the recognition they should. These days there all over shadowed by crappy music full of an overkill of synthesisers and rappers talking about how "phat" a girl's *** is.

Bands like The Shins, The Strokes and Architecture in Helsinki show that there still is hope for decent music!

I'm only 17 and today's music just drives me insane! Pass me some Bee Gees and classic rock.

today's music sucks! it all sounds the same and has no meaning whatsoever.

I don't know why they can't come up with some good stuff.

Maybe people like you and me were just born in the wrong era.

Nice to see someone who still appreciates great music

Today's music are mostly pointless, artist are all churning out music in quantity, but not quality. So all we get are a bunch of CDs that sounds like road drill

Makes you wonder if the people who compose them actually knows any music theory at all.

Just cos you dont like it doesnt mean to say it has no melody.There are genres of music i`m not really into but if you listen without predujice you will hear they have a melody.......however much you dont like it.Music has to follow a musical law in most cases,every time you count four beats something happens,4 beats make a bar,count 4 beats four times you have a bar........listen to your fave tune and count and you will see.Thrash metal bands and frank sinatra,when they write music they write it in the same language,obvioussly it doesnt sound the same.Try franks my way and sid viciuos`s sounds different but same chords and melody!
