Over the past 20 years, I've been to a Denny's diner about 20 times, give or take. It's usually either because it's the only thing open or because someone talked me into going there. What I always noticed is that all the main courses, be it chicken, hamburger, steak, or what-have-you, somehow has the same taste in it. Maybe it's the oil they use...??? I also came to notice that Denny's food is almost always bland and even putting ketchup, hot sauce, or mustard will not help the dish at hand. Even the desserts are kind of ho-hum too. On a scale of zero to 10, with 10 being the best tasting, Denny's scores a consistent 5 in my book.

So is it me or does Denny's have some odd things about it? And why the h**l do people love Denny's? Do the same people who like Denny's like McDonald's, BK, and Krystal's food because those food joints are just God-Awful to mediocre too.

  1. Denny's is too busy violating the civil right of patrons. They do not have the time to teach their cooks the concept of "flavor".

  2. Agree.  Denny's is better than nothing but thats about it.

  3. do they still put flags on top of your burgers? it was in australia in the early 90s didnt last

  4. There are a few "chain style" restaurants that have that predictability factor in common:

    Friendlys, IHOP, KYC

I think the reason for that is to make them memorable for something....in my mind....it is that their meals may NOT be awesome but they have become "predictable".  When you don't know where else to go.....I think the tendency is to go somewhere that is predictable (no surprises) and cheap.

  5. Just my opinion...but if I was really hungry and Denny's was the only place that was open, I'd just tough it out and wait until morning when something else opened up.
