Question:

Why does most of my computers cables have a 'bulge' - a thick portion towards its end?

Especially the monitor cable and the usb has this thick section abt 2cms long towards one end.

You would have more answers to this question if you posted it in the "Computers & Internet" (Hardware) section of Y!A.  But since it is a relatively simple question - I will tell you.  The "bulges" at the end of the cables (and here I'm assuming that you are not actually referring to the plug itself) is reinforcement to strengthen the joint where the cable actually meets the plug.  This is a point of stress which, if not made more durable, can cause the cable to fail due to the fact that the cable is flexible but the plug is not. You might call it "the weak link in the chain".
