Why does mozilla firefox redirect my web searches?

  1. When you type a word in to the address bar, if it doesn't resolve to a hostname, firefox sends it to your default search provider.  Firefox uses Google's I'm-Feeling-Lucky search as its default which means it sends you to Google, and Google immediately directs you to the top search result for your query.  So it's a collaboration between the two.
