Question:

Why does my 16 oyster card have two expiry dates?

My oyster card has two expiry dates. One is the 31st of September 2008 (the end of the academic year) and one is the date before i turn 18 (24 May 2010)

if it expires on the 31st of september, thats not right because i'm still 16 and its valid until i'm 18.

Did/does anyone have this problem and will it expire before im 18 or at the wrong time, when i'm 16 and still in full time education. So what can i do about this?

I would really appreciate an answer, thank you.

  1. Does it actually say both days on the card?

  2. probabkley because of when you're studying

  3. Your 16+ Oyster photocard is expiring on 30th of September 2008 (if 31st of September is the day on the card, it's a misprint 'cos there are only 30 days in September!). That is because you had the free bus and tram travel concession on top of the 16+ fares:

"Generally, 16+ Oyster photocards will expire on the day before your 18th birthday.

But, if you are granted the free travel concession, your card will be valid until the date on the front of the card (usually 30 September 2008).

The free travel concession lasts no more than one academic year, so may need to be renewed."

So yep, you need to get a new one in September for next academic year. A bit of a hassle having to renew it every year but you get free bus and tram travel for a year but for the price of a passport-sized photograph, so it's a no-brainer, really.
