Question:

Why does my 2.5 yr old boy behave well when out but turn into a disrespectful little terror when we're home?

He'll be reasonably obedient and well behaved when we go to the store or to amusement parks (listens when we ask him to do something or tell him no), but when we get home he throws toys, jumps on the couch, turns milk and crackers into mush after asking for them, colors in books, etc. We have to tell him something 4 or 5 times and he'll back talk or throw his toy on the floor when told no. We can't understand why it seems like he's two different kids. Any ideas???

  1. Hehe, that was me as a kid. For some people it's actually the opposite, it's most likely he feels more free at home, do he'll do crazy stuff. A lot of toddlers have split personalities.

  2. Because he trusts you.

When he is out among strangers he doesn't know what will happen if he annoys them.  But he knows that he can do anything and you will still love him.

So at least he trusts you and knows you love him... that makes up for it right ;-)

  3. My little girl if just like that.. drives me crazy.. it's just the terrible 2's (i hope).Just be happy that he dose it just at home and not in public.. ... What me and my hubby has figured out is that when my little one is in town she doesn't want to draw negative attention to herself and embarrass her self at home no one can see him ... Try recording him when he acts up and show him what he looks like.
