  1. What have you got on there, Stairway to Heaven?

  2. its all up to how you encode the songs apple say it can hold up to 1000 songs buts that 3 minutes long encodes at AAC at 128kbps, if the songs are longer or encoded at higher quality then you wont hear much difference.

I encode at 256kpbs and manage less than half the rated number but I am happy with that!!

also games etc can take away from the number of songs as can video it's about total space not a fixed number of files!!

  3. apple says it can hold up to 1000 songs but they are comparing to low quality songs that have no bass and are flat also they are comparing to only four minute songs

  4. The songs are all different lengths and some take up more space than others

Also photos and videos take up space

  5. you could have songs that are very long, or you have a lot of pictures or games. apple always says how many songs you can have but that's only if your adding songs and not anything else. if you dint have anything else but music i would bring it back to where you bought it even if you don't have the receipt and tell the about the problem.

  6. when you buy a ipod.... the songs is a estimate on a average length ( 3 minutes) if your songs are longer  than 3 minutes you couldnt add 1000 songs

    also

its not 4 gb of memory, they install software on ipods, that takes away memory...

i have a 16 gb ipod touch, without anything on it, it has 14.9 gb's

    i think a gb  holds 250 songs
