For the past few weeks when I put my hand up to the cage to pet her or when my male chin. gets close to her(the cages are next to each other, they like each other a lot) she all the sudden stands on her back legs like a boy and puts her "stuff" out and sprays pee all over? She just started doing it, I got her right after she was born and weened from her mom and she was always fine before, What is she doing and why?

  1. Is she in heat? She may be doing this because she gets excited. Just like dogs when they get excited they pee. Well just make sure you keep her cage clean and keep a bathing box in her cage. We had one in school, and they would sleep in the bathing box. So make sure you put one of those in there, and keep it CLEAN!

  2. In relation to the male she's probably trying to attract him. She's probably in heat or sexually mature.

In relation to your hand, I don't know. Has she done this after you handled the male, and you have his scent on you? That would partially explain it. Call the pet store or vet to be sure.

  3. this is known as spraying. chinchillas (mostly females) do this when they feel scared of something. they do it when they are older normaly. i have two chons and none of them do it to me though. when you try to pock her are be calm. lower your heart beat by breathing deeply and make no sudden movement. dont try to grab her just put your han in and let her sniff it. this way she wi,l not feel scared at all and should stop  doing it.

    hope this helped

  4. she in heat??? idk shes prolly just scared

  5. My female used to only do this when the dog would come tooclose to her cage.  I think they only do it when they are angry or scared.   Maybe she doesn't like the male chin.

  6. This is know as spraying and is generally a defensive measure when they feel threatened. She's just scared. Perhaps seperating her from the older male may help until she's older will help.
