Why does my Air Conditioner smell like fish?

Why does my A/C smell like fish, and what can I do to treat this?

Is it a swamp cooler? If so, when's the last time you changed the pads? Straw pads can get moldy if you don't change them.

Like fish or fishy water? Your drainage might be off and water is sitting in the air conditioner becoming stagnant and smelly. Check that and clean.

if it's a central unit, change air filter, and have e-coil cleaned,also ducting  maybe need to be replaced, if it has moldy smell, when a/c turns on. if,it is a window unit, clean filter, and e-coil.
