Question:

Why does my Blackberry use up memory when I'm not even using it?

I got an 8100 and a few applications that keeps me updated, like weather, sports, news, stocks, etc. I routinely transfer pictures to my computer and I don't keep any songs on it, aside from my two ringtones. I already have a 2GIG micro SD card in there that's declining in memory even when I'm asleep. I went from over ten megabytes to two megabytes in a week. I've already cleared my cache and that only gave me an extra .6 megs.

What can I do to stop this drain or keep my memory high?

  1. You may need to clear out some other stuff you aren't using, like the sample video and unused languages. Look at the links below for more information on maximizing the BlackBerry's memory:

Another quick way to free up memory is to perform a hard reset. Remove the battery from the device (while it is still powered on) for about 10 seconds, then reinsert.

  2. Because emails are being pushed thru to it along with other things. A Blackberry is always working even when your not using it

  3. Because the Blackberry is constantly updating weather, sports, stocks, e-mails it uses memory to do so.

At least once a week you should perform a battery pull (shut down your pearl, remove the battery for 30secs - replace).

This will prevent what's known as "leakage" on your phone. Also, any songs or ringtones you do have, should be placed on your SD card.
