Why does my Chihuahua honk like a goose?

He is choking rub under his chin and he'll stop I have 3 chihuahuas

It is probably just a reverse sneeze/cough. Our Chihuahuas do it on occasion too. Just gently rub their throats so that they swallow, or give them some water. It usually happens when they get super excited.

My chihuahua does the honking as well.  I was alarmed at first but asked out vet about it and she said that it was caused when they get excited and start breathing fast, their esophogus can't handle all of the air coming in and out and tightens a little.  But its nothing to be alarmed about, my chihuahua does it all the time lol

She's just coughing!

Since chihuahuas are so little and close to the ground they can inhale stuff from the floor and start coughing. If the dog does it around every 5 minutes you might want to take it to the vet because she could be sick.

Does it sound like your dog is coughing or wheezing? Sometimes dogs cough to dislodge something in their throats, it can be alarming but it's no more of a concern that us coughing.

it's most likely a reverse sneeze. this is nothing to be alarmed about. it happens when the dog holds in the sneeze and it circulates throughout the sinuses. then when the dog finally lets it out it sounds like a wheeze or a honk.

if it occurs when you are walking the dog, it's probably pulling too hard on the collar which is cutting off air and that could cause the "honking" as well.

if it happens very often, you should bring it up at the dog's next check-up because the vet can see if there are allergies or something else that could cause that. good luck!
