Why does my FZR 250 backfire when starting in cold weather?

Has just started winter weather here and even after charging battery - she no start - just the rr rr rr etc and the occasional backfire..why is it so?

  1. your using the choke too much , only a second or two should you use the choke , gently warm up the bike with out fouling the plugs


  2. Your ignition timing is slightly  out you will need to have the timing reset .

  3. Backfiring is cause by unburnt fuel being ignited in the exhaust. You must be turning the throttle while trying to start.

    Here's what you do. Turn the key to the on position, wait 30 seconds then put the choke on all the way, next start it. It should start right up and rev high. When it starts to warm up, it will start reving lower. that's when you can unchoke it.

    if it still doesn't start, push start it. Put it in first gear with the key on and coast with the clutch pulled in. When you get about 3 or 4 MPH, release the clutch and the bike should start right up.
