Question:

Why does my Ford Escort Zetec Idle High, and the Revs Stick?

I have a 130ps 1.8 16v Zetec Escort mk5.

The idle is very high (circa 3000RPM,) and the revs stick on acceleration, and on the overrun.

I have changed the Throttle Position Sensor, Idle Control Valve, Cleaned the throttle body, disconnected the accelerator cable to check for sticking, replaced Air Intake sensor, ECU coolant temperature sensor, checked for splits in vacuum hoses and replaced inlet and throttle body gaskets.

I've also done countless ECU resets, but still the car continues to have these problems! Code reading does not reveal any error codes.

Any advice?

Regards,

Andy

  1. I had one and it did the same thing i was told it was the oxygen sensor but i ended up trading it before i got it fixed

  2. coz its a ford and they're cr4p

  3. Have you checked the positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV) these are usualy cause problems

  4. check rubber T piece isn't broken, these cost about 4 quid.

check all the sensors around the engine are free from moisture.

  5. I reckon it's the ECU itself which is faulty, it's not unknown. I imagine by resets you mean disconnecting the battery, reconnecting and allowing the car to re-learn the running info?  Maybe a breaker would have an ECU on a write off. Worth a try.

  6. A friend of mine just had the same problem and it turned out to be a sensor.Supplied and fitted it cost him £80 but it could easily be one of the other answers .Get it on a diagnostic if you can,it should give immediate results and save you lots of faffing around.

    Good luck

  7. does it have carbs or fuel injection?

  8. ask the guys on feoa.net or erdt.com. They will be able to get you a decent answer
