Question:

Why does my Goldfish keep spitting his food out ?

Hey people. I need some help.

I got my goldfish (sushi) about a week ago. I've done everything the people at Petco told me to do, but for some reason he wont eat his food. I put in about 3 flakes daily and watch him, but he swims for it and chews it up, but then spits it out.

Why does he keep doing that? He's been doing that for a couple of days. Is there something wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something?

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! =[

  1. okay, so sometimes goldfish do that to break up their food but if you don't see him swallowing it after then it could mean that he doesn't like his food. try giving him some pellets or even cut up vegetables although they sink rather quickly and foul up the water very quickly. if he doesn't eat his food after that then try giving him algae waffers. goldfish are top and bottom feeders and he might like those if he isnt eating his food. it could also be the type of fish. I know that from experience that fancy goldfish take a while to get used to their environment and are very very shy untill they get used to the tank they are in. I hope this helps you and sushi.

  2. Your fish is fine. My female betta does it a lot too. It just means that he is eating flakes that are too big. Fish don't really get picky about what they eat, especially goldfish. Just crumble the flakes you give him in your hand and then put it in the tank. He will be able to take the flakes in much easier if they are small. If he keeps trying to eat the same flakes, that means that he wants to eat them. Don't worry, it's normal. If this doesn't work please email me.

    Good luck!

    Kenzie.

  3. Your fish is fine, buy new food to try your gold fishes diet.

  4. Flakes aren't all that good for goldfish.  Try sinking pellets--goldfish are bottom feeders, and he'll probably enjoy these a lot more.
