Why does my HTC Touch cell phone suck?

I've had this phone since Christmas, and it has progressively gotten worse. It freezes? The backlight wont come on, the screen freezes, I have to restart it atleast once a day, and when it restarts, the alarms I have set go off, I get texts. Sometimes there are connection problems with the internet. All theses error codes pop up. I dont get it. It was expensive and its so cute and fun , BUT IT SUCKS!! Its the most unreliable phone I have ever had. Also sometimes phone calls wont come through at all, I just have voicemails, and no missed calls. Sometimes when I hang up, It wont hang up! I have to take the battery out! Anyways... How can this be fixed besides returning it to the store? Someone told me to download a windows update but I can't find it online... THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!

There might be a ROM upgrade available for your HTC Touch.

First, make a note of your current OS version... Start > Settings > System tab > About.

Then, go to www.htc.com

Select your country.

Select Support.

Select your phone / carrier.

Select the "Software Download" icon.

You'll find ROM Upgrades and Hotfixes (if any) there.
