Why does my IPOD make noises when connected to a docking station?

My ipod makes these noises when changing a song--only when connected to a docking station or car charger, not when I use headphones. This is my first ipod, so I have not idea if this is normal or not. It's an 80 GB Classic if that helps. I'm pretty sure that it's the sound of changing files, but should I hear it over the speakers?

that doesnt sound normal. my ipod doesnt make noises when i connect it to my ihome docking station. it makes beeping noises when i first stick on there but when songs are changing. my ipod is an old nano. maybe urs is just diff from mine.
