Question:

Why does my Ivillage Fertility chart say i'm pregnant a week after my period?

It's been exactly a week since the start of my period, which lasted 5 days. We had s*x the day after it stopped, and that's the only time since if that matters. I'm charting by BBT, and it's been averaging 97.7, with 2 97.8's and 2 97.6's in there. That seems average from what I've read, and I keep thinking it will spike up when I'm ovulateing, which for most people is about 14 days after there cycle. So why does my chart on that website now list me as fertile today? Is there something I'm missing?

  1. You're right that many women ovulate 14 days after their last period, but many do not, so iVillage is taking the broader view of your fertility and estimating that you might ovulate a little early or a little later than CD14. Because sperm lives for 5 days in a fertile environment, it's possible that BD today could get you pregnant. That's why your fertile time began today.

I don't use iVillage, but on FertilityFriend.com, when you have a few charts already done, they'll fine-tune the data and give you a more accurate idea of when you're most fertile. Ovulation is always around 14 days before your NEXT period, so if you have short cycles and that data was put into the system when you started charting, perhaps they're using that info too.
