Question:

Why does my Kenmore fridge make a dud..dud...dud...dud noise after everytime I close the door?

Has anybody experienced this before or please tell me what might be causing this? Thanks!

  1. Compressor kicking on to make up for the cold that escaped.

  3. Kenmore is made by a variety of manufacturers and I have no idea what your model  is.

    One model (253 source I think- first three digits of mdl number) uses a damper that closes if you open the door to keep the cold in the freezer. Then it opens when the door is closed. I have heard that noise with that one. It is a noisy damper opening up.

    Another noise you can get with any refrigerator after closing the door is the air bubbling in to the unit through the trap in the defrost drain. It is more prevalent in hot weather.

    When you open the door you let in warm air to a cold refrigerator. When you close the door that air contracts creating a vacumn that draws air in through the drain.

    But my best guess it that it is the damper.  One test would be to turn both controls to off then see if you get the noise when you open and close the doors.
