If I don’t use the internet, my PC runs fast, but after I use the internet, my PC suddenly becomes excruciatingly slow. It takes 30 minutes or more just to close applications so I can turn off the power. Sometimes it becomes fast again if I delete all cookies and temporary internet files, but it may take an hour or so to do that once it has become slow. Disc cleanup does the job, but that takes hours once the PC has slowed down. If I run Norton virus scan, it ALWAYS finds tracking cookies, usually from a common website like Yahoo Finance. When I delete the tracking cookies, my PC ALWAYS becomes fast again. Clearly, the problem only occurs when my PC has tracking cookies. But tracking cookies aren’t supposed to be debilitating, so there must be another problem related to tracking cookies. I correct the problem every night while sleeping by running Norton virus & spyware scan, but I can’t keep scanning several hours every day only to have the problem reoccur as soon as I use the internet.

My PC has a CeleronD325 (2.53 GHz, 256K L2 cache), 256 MB RAM, cable internet connection. I keep Norton Internet Security, firewall on and 3rd-party cookies blocked. I run Norton scan for viruses and spyware every night. I often defrag & always keep Windows updated.

Do I need to buy a new PC with a core 2 cpu & more cache memory and RAM?
