  1. Like someone else said they use them to radiate heat away from their body. They don't have sweat like people do.

  2. Its just rabbit homeostasis.

Homeostasis is the body's way of returning to its normal state, in humans we sweat or shiver to get our body temperature to its normal place, and rabbits radiate heat from their thin ears which cools them down.

Hope I could be of help! =]

  3. Their ears are their body's cooling system as some others have said.  The many veins in their ears circulate the blood supply away from their body and cool it.

Have you ever noticed pictures of jackrabbits, or desert hares or foxes?  Their ears are enormous - this is how several species of animals keep cool.

If it is a particularly hot day or your rabbit appears stressed from the heat, the quickest way to prevent heatstroke is to hold a small piece of ice on the inside of your rabbit's ear.

  4. That is how they cool themselves down...there is a lot of blood supply close to the skin in their ears, so as the warm blood passes through it cools down and helps maintain a normal body temperature.

  5. I would guess because it's ears are so thin, the sun warms them. Plus if it's running around the warm blood is really flowing and, again, the ears are thin so you can feel the warmth.
