Why does my Sony rdr-hxd560 (dvd player with hard drive) shut down?

Clicks, shuts down, re-boots with the "welcome" message, and then returns to standby mode showing the time

I have exactly the same model and it did exactly the same thing, about 6 months after I bought it.

It happened a few times a week for about 4 weeks and never did it again.

I thought it might have been power surges (but all my a/v kit has in-line surge filters) or an internal circuit protector, but I never actually found out.

It's fine now...

All these machines with hard drives seem to do that occasionally, maybe they're hoping to be Windows PCs when they grow up!!

Seriously, if you just unplug it for 10 minutes that usually cures it.
