It's been doing it for a while, but recently i've found it to be very annoying. What is it, and how can i fix it?

  1. This is a common high-voltage supply problem.  If your TV is still under warranty, have it fixed.  If not, it's time to consider a TV that doesn't use a Cathode Ray Tube.  I hope it all works out for you.  Good luck.

  2. Time for repairs or you might have it to close to a transformer or something some things will drain from a t.v. just like a magnet will dis color them.

  3. By static noise I assume you mean a rattle and scrape sound coming from the speaker when your screen is white?  Does this static occur using over the air signal or from a cable source?  If it is one antenna channel but not all channels, possibly that station is closer to you than the others, making such a stronger signal even to the point of overwhelming your sound signal.  Most cable channels are equal in strength and this problem is less likely to happen using cable as a source.

Additionally, sometimes electrolytic capacitors become defective and don't work as designed.  Capacitor leakage can show up as static on the screen influencing the sound as well.

As a last resort, try using the menu screen to put your settings on "auto" see if it will remedy the problem.
