Why does my Yorkie always berry things?

I have a 4 year old Yorkshire Terrior and a 13 year old Poodle and my Yorkie is constantly berrying his treats and toys. Then he stares at it until someone "finds" it. When we do he takes it and berries it somewhere else and repeats the process. is this normal or does he just want to have fun?

  1. okay, first of all its bury and terrier.

yes its normal. She's a dog!

  2. i'm pretty sure he's just playing with you. dogs like to have some fun too. my dog just buries things for the heck of it.. she's so protective of her toys. but yeah, your dog's actions are completely normal.

  3. if he is burring food it actually means he is full and wants to save it for later. he is watching it to make sure nothing comes and takes it. in the wild dogs dont always get food in abundance so when they have too much they burry it for later when they are hungry. that exactly what your yorkie is doing. its just a natural instinct. feed your dog less and you digging it back up again (whilst funny) doesnt do anything. he will just have to burry it in a new place coz it was found.
