Question:

Why does my Zippo lighter take so long to light up?

I have used Zippo lighters for a number of years now but I have noticed that once they have been used for a year or more they become increasingly difficult to light.

Is it something with the wick I need to address? I just don't get it.

  1. If you're getting a spark from the flint, it can ONLY be two things.

    1.  The wick is too short or dirty.  Using a cheaper fluid will create a "dirty" or greasy film on the wick causing a tough light.

    2.  Low or cheaper fluid.

    hope this helps
