use the tuner, strings might be out of tune.

if its because its old well, i dont think i can help you. if its busted, its busted.

  2. yeah you might need to invest in an electric tuner.

other wise you should get someone you know to take a loot at your guitar might just be the strings

  3. how old r  the strings & do u have a tuner

  4. Could be a number of things...but an old guitar plays better than a new guitar.  Ask Zakk Wylde.  Old strings tend to distort after a few months of high tension, while new strings need to be broken in to feel right.  Older strings have a lot of residue from your fingertips as well, which is why you should clean your guitar often.  Also, a quick tip to tune your guitar correctly without aid of a tuner:

(largest string to smallest, I cant read sheet music)

5th fret, first string, tune 2nd string to that tone

5th fret, second string, tune 3rd string to that tone

5th fret, third string, tune 4th string to that tone

4th fret, 4th string, tune 5th string to that tone

5th string, 5th fret, tune 6th string to that tone

You might have an out of tune guitar, but it will be kept in harmonic balance with those tuning figures.  This is also a very accurate way to tune your guitar by ear.  If your not tone deaf, you can further tune it closer by hitting 2 frets on 2 strings at the same time (1st and 2nd strings, fret 2) and listen for the warble.  You can tune the frequency tighter using this method.
