Why does my antivirus keep showing an autorun virus when there's no virus there?

I run eSet NOD32 antivirus. Whenever I plug in a disk on key, or run a a virus scan, or randomly out of nowhere it will show me a threat object C:\autorun.inf located in C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe

I have no idea why it keeps showing up, and none of the other antiviruses I've run over the years on the same machine have ever shown it.

  1. If nod32 said its there then its there.

do a full scan in safe mode, if you have no joy then contact Eset for help that's what you pay for.

  2. C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe is sys location

    do this

    1- uninstall NOD

    2- install norton 08 or kaepersky 7

    3- run full system scan

4- if viruses found they will be resolved

5 if not then ur NOD has gone mad

  3. The autorun.inf file is hidden.

My office computer was infected by this virus.

The autorun.inf is a valid windows file use to auto trigger a setup program in the CD/DVD.

However, now it is use by many virus writer to trigger their viruses.

Once the viruses are run, it will make copies of themselves to all the connected network drives.

To manually remove it. You must use DOS command.

    unhide the file

    c:\attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf

    Then delete the file

    c:\del autorun.inf

However, these files may come back if you have contact with the affected USB drives or network drives.
