Question:

Why does my baby cry out of nowhere in her sleep?

Well she is 15 mos. now so not an infant, but sometimes she will just start crying a horrible cry in her sleep. Not a whimper, but a wail. She is not awake at all though. She still looks completely asleep. I will usually give her a sippee cup of juice and she will go back to sleep, but she isn't really wailing because she is thirsty, is she? Do you think she can have bad dreams? Thanks for your help.

  1. Even babies can have nightmares so yes it is very possible she is having a nightmare or even a night-terror.

  2. It sounds like night terrors to me.

Here is some info on them

Poor baby! I hope this passes soon!

  3. bad dream maybe, my 4 month old baby girl does that every now and then., dont know why i always run to the crib and touch her a little and she calms down and goes back to sleep

    Good luck

  4. They are called night terrors.  I used to call them nightmares.  At her age, they are completely normal.  She has been through enough of life to have nightmares.

Do you not talk about these things with your pediatrician?  You ARE going in for well baby checks, right?  My docs office gave me sheets of what to expect for the next period, and that was on them from about 12 months or so.

And don't give her juice!  You'll rot her teeth!  Give her water, only in the middle of the night!  Again, ask your doctor and dentist on that one.  They'll back me up.

  5. yes def. bad dreams!! my son is only 4months and he has dreams to where he does the exact same thing.

  6. Ya my 4 month old does is often as well, heck my 18 year old brother does it aswell lol its quite entertaining
