Why does my baby kitten mew really loudly when he uses his litter tray?

He's brand new and 8 weeks old, and very happy. Every time he goes he mews really loud. He also mews like this after every meal. Is this normal? Does he want something? What is he trying to say?

  1. That's surely normal. You should be worried when he's not 'meow'ing. That shows how please he is with his surrounding and food, But cat does sometimes meow hard when she/he wants attention like a little stroke or rub.

  2. kitty cat letting you know his happy when he done pick him up and talk to it they love this

  3. It's normal. My cat used to do that when she was little, too.

  4. May be a urinal tract infection.

  5. I've seen several kittens who did that.  I think it's just still a challenge for them.  If you haven't already taken him to the vet for his first check up then do that soon and ask about the crying.  But it's never been a real problem with any kitten I've seen doing that.  When they're really tiny they have no control and mom has to l**k them to make them p**p and pee.  He's probably had control for about half his life already, but it can still be a challenge.  And some of them just like to announce everything they do.

But cats will rarely show pain, so I wouldn't ignore it completely.  Ask the vet about it, they should know whether or not it's a reason for concern.  Kittens tend to have worms and it's standard for the vets to deworm them, that may help.

  6. I would definitely consult a vet- you are right to be concerned- it sounds like she is having problems urinating and that she gets an upset tummy after she eats- what are you feeding her? many- many cats have food allergies- they are especially sensitive to dairy products and grains that are put in the food- try a wheat gluten free food- Fancy Feast makes a couple- Turkey and Giblets Feast- in green can- Chicken and Liver Feast in a sort of mustard yellow can- Gourmet Chicken Feast in a red can, Flaked  Fish and Shrimp Feast (blue), Tender Beef Feast- (brown), Chicken and Tender Beef Feast in an orangy can- Chopped Grill Feast in a light green can- and Gourmet Seafood Feast-be sure that your selection doesn't say "grilled". "in gravy", chopped or "flaked" (except the one I mentioned) or anything like that - those contain the wheat gluten- good luck - Oh and if you do take her to the vet try to have a urine sample to take in- that's a tricky one I know- you have to make sure that it is in a specimen cup- good luck

  7. Our kitten did that too and grew out of it.  Still, we took him to the vet for check ups and such.. it wouldn't hurt to seek their advice to be sure they are not staving off worms, infection.

  8. Next time he goes to the litter tray, see if he seems to be straining or if he goes and nothing comes out. He could be constipated, which would be very painful for your kitten! This could explain him mewing loudly after eating as well.

Of course he could just be a very vocal little kitten!

If he is 8 weeks old, he should be due for a vet check and shots. It would be a good idea to bring this up to the vet so they can check him for any intestinal problems. He also should have a worming medication from the vet as well. If he hasn't been dewormed, it would explain him having trouble in the litter tray as well. Worms can be a life threatening problem for kittens.

And yes he could have an infection but be happy and playful at all times. Cats are well known for "masking" any illness they have until they are nearly on death's door. I have seen  cats with massive injuries that you would think would have incapacitated them, walking around like nothing was wrong.

Make sure he has plenty of fresh water, do not give him any milk of any kind (it causes stomach & intestinal problems in kittens), and feed him good quality kitten food. And make sure he sees a vet for his checkup, shots and deworming as soon as you can.

  9. Don't worry about this the kitten is just fine.

  10. my kitten did that almost until he was 6months old ...he is now 8months old and he doesnt do it anymore, but it did sound so cute when he did it
