Why does my barometer not work correctly across the whole dial here in NZ? How do you calibrate instrument?

  1. The needle is probably rubbing on the face. It is very easy to stop it from moving. Relatively speaking - the type you have is not very accurate, it has a bulb of some kind that moves the needle. I was a weatherman in the Air Force and we had a really good one - but it still needed to be calibrated every day. Plus you have to give it a little tap in case the needle is stuck. It doesn't take much to make it stick.

    The easiest way for you to calibrate it is using the weather channel or news. That's close enough.

    To really get an accurate reading, you need a mecurial barometer - which can cost thousands of dollars.
