Why does my bass make a weird noise?

Sometimes my bass guitar makes a twangy sound and I'm not sure if it's because I'm not pressing down hard enough or what. What can I do to avoid that sound?

  1. is it rattling? it could be because your neck needs to be reset. check to see if it's just on certain frets/strings.

idk, maybe try curling your fingers a little more, to get more leverage and to push harder. but to me it sounds like you should take it to a music shop to find out if anything is wrong...

  2. you might need to tune it

  3. Yeah, could be the neck and/or string action (height). Any good music shop can explain this and show you how to adjust it.

  4. If you haven't had it long then it may do that.  Many new basses especially make that noise on some frets for a while.  Just takes a bit of time then it slowly goes over time.

  5. u might need a setup i had the same problem when i bought my 95 fender jazz bass last year so take it down to some store and they can adjust it for about 40 bucks and it will sound as good as new and it will be easier to play
