  1. My suggestion would be heat. It's too hot in your tank at times for him/her. They will dig and also climb at the tank. You may see them sit with their mouth open. These are all signs of being too hot. If you can get a small fan to clip on the tank or above the tank and put it on a very LOW setting, that will circulate the air and make it stay one temperature.

  2. I have a beardie and she digs all the time too!! Do you have anything at the bottom of the cage like sand? I have sand in mine and she digs in it all the time. I think that it's just something they like to do. My friend has one also and she thinks that they dig in sand for fun. There isn't really any reason for it!

  3. I don't think it would be for fun - they don't work like that... its a waste of valuable energy.

Typically, i would guess that it was a female trying to find somewhere to lay her eggs. I presume that you haven't bred or you'd know this - but sometimes they have infertile practise eggs...

Are you sure its a male?

On top of that, well why would they dig... Maybe he's too hot? Maybe he doesn't have enough/tooo much humidity? Maybe there is something he can smell/taste/sense under there and he wants to see it - a bug? A p**p?

As for correct temp, it doesn't matter what your basking spot is ( anything upto from 95 - 120F)  as long as you have a cool zone that is 85F.

  4. Might be trying to dig a hole for shade, they often try to hide out in the warmest part of the day, or foraging for food..check out this link..bearded dragon uk..

  5. Maybe he is a 'she'  trying to find a spot to lay eggs.

Has he been in any contact with any other bearded dragons recently ?   Sorry if it's a daft answer.

  6. thats what the y do!. dig,eat , drink ,bask, poo ,maybe chase a cage mate.

  7. They'll often do this if too hot.  What are your basking temps?  If you have at least a 40 gallon breeder tank, it shouldn't be hard to warm one end and keep the other cool.  Basking temps should be 100F.  Use a digital probe (indoor/outdoor) thermometer to accurately measure the basking platform temp.  Stickon and dial thermometers only measure air temp.
