Question:

Why does my bicycle chain keeps falling off?

I have a newish city bike (pedal brakes, no gears), and ever since I had to remove the back wheel to fix a puncture the chain keeps coming off!

At first I thought the wheel wasn't level, but it seems hard to check this.

Anyone got any ideas or know any best-practices for this, chain-slack etc.

Thanks!

  1. there are a few ways, loose chain, rear whell needs to line up w/ front tire,ck your chain for strech marks.lossen the back wheel and pull straight til it looks right

  2. chain prob is to big for it!

  3. Obviously, you haven't pulled the rear wheel back far enough. The tension of the chain is adjusted by moving the rear wheel back and forth in the dropouts. You need to pull it tight or the chain will fall off.

  4. well when you put your back wheel on, it may have been misaligned. Try loosening up the wheel and putting it in a more straight position. Check the chain also for stretching.

check out http://sheldonbrown.com for any other bike related problems

  5. also your sprocket may be bend which can make your chain to fall off.

  6. loosen the nuts on both ends of the axle, with the chain on the sprockets pull the rear wheel backwards, tighten the sprocket side of the axle first, the the other side..keep in mind while doin this keeps a minimum amount of tension until ya chain has just a 1\2 inch or more slack...ya should be good to go,if the rear wheel doesn't have enough drive movement(too tight)just loosen the axle and re-adjust..it should be a breeze after some minor adjustments...cheers

  7. Hi!

It seems like when you removed the back wheel it probably snagged something or made it not the correct way it should be! Ask your dad to help you fix it or go to google!!!Hope I helped

  8. Loosen the back wheel with the chain on and pull it at tight as you can then re-tghten

    the chain is loose
