I have been smoking for about 4 months now because of stress. i would usually smoke three cigarettes a day (morning, noon, night.) i have actually tried to stop, but to no avail. i stopped for about a week then came back again. Except, my body suddenly wants a smoke at the weirdest times. One example is around two in the morning. Also, I used to smoke just three, but now it has become strange. In the morning, I would normally smoke one, but sometimes i smoke three or four! Then in the afternoon, i wouldn't feel like smoking. Any explanations as t what is going on?

  1. it's kind of complicated to explain properly but nicotine is way subtler than many other addictions heroin included.

It will get you when you are more off guard, the best way to get you is when there is nicotine in your body, then the cravings will/can be stronger.

Basically the longer you are off it, the weaker can the cravings be but once an addict, always an addict. Give it up now, stay 30 years without a cigarette, then have one just for fun and you are back into it.

One thing to know is that the cravings seldom last for more than one or two minutes. That's what you mainly need to know to beat it. Just dond give in and they'll go away. The longer you stay nicotine free the less often the cravings. Don't let your heart pump CO2 around while trying to circulate oxigen, or one day it'll give up.

    good luck

EDIT:nicotine is an extremely deadly poison more lethal than strychnine/diamondback rattlesnake venom/arsenic/cyanide and I don't believe for one moment that it is produced by our body. Please back up your statements.

I'll include some sites for mine but google is your friend, there are millions of sources for what I said which is quite common knowledge amongst ex smokers especially.

  2. I'm a ex smoker and it's definitely the nicotine eatting at you. The more you smoke the more your body will crave. Try to get on something to help you stop smoking. Then get on a medication for your stress. Cigarettes do cause cancer. I've had several family member die from cancer. They smoked for years.

  3. its the dreaded nicotine reeling you in, it takes over your body, soon you will be on more and more a day and will be totally addicted

  4. Nicotine is a substance your body produces and is needed in the operation of the nerve synapse.  This is the connection from one nerve to the next.

Once you start inhaling nicotine your body does not need to make it.  Everything goes fine until you stop smoking.  Now the nerve impulse does not travel smoothly and you get those twitches and shakes and craving nicotine.

If you can keep from smoking long enough your body will resume its own production and you'll feel better.

Now, some people get that oral fixation of having the cig. hanging out of their mouth and that is difficult to stop too.  Toothpicks, straws and who knows what else. ;)
