Why does my brake light not work?

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and recently my brake light went out on the rear left side. The only weird thing about it is that it only goes out when my headlights are on. So during the day the brake light works but at night when I have to switch on my headlights it goes out again.

check the connection inside the socket where the bulb goes in at,they was bad to get corroded in their and cause this too happen,id also check the wires on the tail light to see if they are making a good connection,you may have to replace the socket on that one,they do go bad once in a while.good luck.

you have a short somewhere, get it to an electrical shop asap

your brake light switch (by the brake pedal) is bad.

sounds as if a wire is crossed.  or a relay is bad.
