Well I bought my dragon maybe 4 or 5 days ago and the first few days he ran around in the cage. I feed him crickets and he eats them. I have the right lighting (roughly 100 degrees on one side and about 84 on the other). He is in a 20" long tank and I'm just not sure whats wrong with him.

  1. He may have just been getting used to his new home at first.  How big is he??  If he's close to or over a foot long, he probably doesn't have enough room to be active.  I had to temporarily keep my adult beardie (21 inches long) in a 20 gallon long tank recently and all he did was sleep...he didn't have enough room to do anything else.  I felt AWFUL!!!  Now that he's back in a 55 gallon tank, he's much happier.  Also, what type of substrate do you use??  He may have ingested some of it when eating and become impacted.  VERY painful!!!  Hope I helped..good luck.  Beardies make awesome pets!!!

  2. Mine did the same thing, he was active when I got him then inactive a couple days later, just let him adjust to his new home, give him 2-3 weeks then he'll be fine

  3. As long as your beardie is eating and you are providing proper UVB lighting don't worry.  If you are only using a bulb that produces heat with limited UVA output,  it's possible that your beardie isn't able to digest its food properly and is becoming impacted.  Has your dragon been defecating?  You should see "turds" on the substrate (and cleaning them out when found).

BDs need UVB to aid in calcium and vitamin absorption.  Depending upon the type of substrate you're using, it's also possible that your dragon is ingesting too much of it (substrate).

If your dragon is defecating daily and you're providing UVB/UVA/heat, then I wouldn't worry too much.

Hopefully, you mean 20 gallon long and not 20" (inch) long.  Small beardies will do well in a 20 gallon but they will most certainly require a 4 foot - 6 foot long tank as they reach adulthood.

  4. As long as the temps are fine and he's eating as he should, I woulnd't worry about it. Animals all have different personalities and sleeping can be typical behavior.

  5. there nothin wrong thats just there porsaterly
