  1. it all depends on how busy the network is at peak times when most people go online it will run a bit slower.

can be a real pain sometimes but i dont know of any way to speed it up.

  2. Mine can be like that. I think its something to do with the Ethernet connection - some days its good, others it isn't. I'm not very helpful though, I don't really know much about computers!

  3. It is to do with a thing called the Contention Ratio. Simply put, there may be 50 people on your connection. Not all are on at the same time so it is faster, but sometimes when there are a lot on this slows it down. You can monitor your speed on the link below.

    http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/

  4. This is due to Contention Ration, BT has 50:1, however bt severly throttle their speeds I had a downspeed of 3.5mbps and upload of 300kbps, I changed to Sky Broardband and now get 5.5mbps down and 768kbps up for 1/3 the price!

  5. Imagine Broadband to be like a motorway..

On a Sunday morning at 9am, it's likely that you'll be able to drive down the motorway as fast as the speed limit allows.. On Monday morning at 9am, it's likely you'll be stuck in a traffic jam..

Your broadband connection is like that.. You share it with other people (as in Contention Ratio) and on the days when nobody is using it, you'll be able to whizz along, but on the days when everyone want's to use it, you're likely to sit twiddling your thumbs..

There's not a lot you can do about that I'm afraid.
