Why does my calf/leg still hurt/swell up afer exercise after nearly one year?

Hi,

I have some how hurt my calf muscle and it now seems to swell up after exercise and last for a couple of days. This also affects my thigh in some cases, and my knee feels out of place also. I also have an ankle strain which seems to be related to this, although I have no specific incident which caused these to have occurred, I can only imagine it was in the gym. I did however minorly hurt my ankle 18 months ago by wearing poor shoes when walking around all day.

After nearly one year this problem has not gone away. I have been to physio therapists for muscle massage, I have had a scan to ensure it is not a blood clot, I have been to see a reumatologist, and recently I have also been to see a highly skilled sports therapist.

The massage appears to have helped, and the sports therapist has diagnosed a possible problem with the envelope of tissue around my calf muscle which causes the swelling after exercise, or a possible problem with my back feeding down to my leg.

The problem is that I went on an exercise bike for 35 mins two days ago and my leg is stil swollen. I can't exercise as I want to, and this has been for nearly one whole year. In the past I have ran a marathon, so I can say I am increasingly frustrated at not being able to exercise on a regular basis without being in discomfort for two days afterwards.

Can anyone help or tell me what this might be, i really don't know what else to do about it, and I can't bare the idea of not exercising to my full potential like I used to. Although the sports physician has offered some insight, it has not got me anywhere. To be told I will always feel this discomfort after mild exercise just doesn't seem right, to a healthy 27 year old male.

please help if you can?!

Dan

I would more then likely see your physician and see if there is a blockage in he veins that are in the affected area and see if he can come up with a reason as to why you are swelling after exercising .I hope you get a better answer then this in the meantime I wish you luck and have a great day .
