Why does it happen?

Does the smell come from outside the car or from the inside?

  1. Either you overfill it and spill or you have a leak somewhere.

  2. i am unsure as to why, but the smell comes from the out side, because the fuel lines do not pass through the inside of the passenger compartment. on a few cars they do but that is a set of steel lines through out the interior. in the back by the tank and in the engine bay you have rubber flexible lines, these can age and start to leak. i am unsure how the smell is getting to you  though, unless the air is on fresh air, that would do it.

  3. Most likely the filler neck tube. Or you spilled gas on your hand when you filled it up haha.
