Why does my car sound like a lawnmower?

Hello. Please, someone help me. I am very worried. I don't have much money, and I am afraid of having to take my car in for repairs.

I just replaced my alternator, or really my friend did for me, and it works great, but now two days later, I started my car, and I can tell it is coming from the front of the car, it sounds like a lawnmower almost, and when i step on the gas it sounds more like one. when it is parked or stopped, it goes "do do do do" real fast like, like prapeller blads or something. I can't really explain it in great detail, but hopefully you get the picture. I was afraid something would happen on the way home, thank God above nothing happened. I am now afraid to use my car again.

what could it be? Can anyone give me any advice?

Thank you all so much, and God bless all of you.

  1. sounds like an exhaust leak. take it to a muffler shop and have them check it they will do it for free most likely you got a rusted old piping and it busted a whole finnaly, and they can just put a little weld on the tubing or just replace it all im sure just for the weld 10 dollars and all new piping if its all rusted probblly 90 dollars. a temporary fix just tell them to put a quilk weld on just for now. and if your really short on money just go by their and if they say it is your exhaust than dont worry about it it will be fine and wont brake down on you just will sound verry loud and annoying i drove my probe gt with a cracked open catlac converter for a year and dam it was annoying! or maybe hacked off your catlac converter and scrapped it for money thats been happening lately. it dont sound too bad as long as it still runs good dont worry bout it till you get more money.

  2. could be a ton of things. Most probable are exhaust leak (gasket, rust through), someone hacked the catalytic converter off, or a spark plug came out.

  3. something might be rubbing against the fan?

  4. oil build up you need to get an oil change and fix your exaust pipe.

  5. Recheck what was done on the car. Make sure the belt is tight and the alt is tight and hasnt loosened from the bracket causing it to shift slightly rubbing the belt across the cooling fins. If you had to remove the pulley when you replaced it make sure that is still tight as well. Im not sure if you have a o2 pump on this car but if the hose was not put on it could make that sound as well. Just double check or get your firend to double check the work he did to make sure he didnt forget something or it didnt loosen up on you.

  6. sounds like the pulleys are hittin something never heard of doo.dooo

  7. Maybe the exhaust pipe is broken.
