Why does my car tach at 4K @ 65 mph in 5th gear?

Guzzling gas, I am sure I could be at 2.5 or less and shift down if I have to pass. It is pure BS...

well what kinda car do you have? how big is the engine and how old is it?

you may have a problem with your gears. or..if you trany has been slipping it may be your clutch.

i kinda had the same problem. my trans was slipping and my rpms were at about 4k at 65. normally without the problem i had(which ended up being the clutch) id be at 2700 at 65 in my 04 mazda6.
