Why does my cat always need to be next to me when he shakes?

He always walks right across the room, to where I am, and stands right next to me before he shakes. Every time. Especially when I'm eating.

Why?

  1. What kind of shaking is it?

  2. Is he wet? Maybe he has the fleas and wants you to scratch it off. Try it!

  3. Well, think about it, when the cat shakes itself, for those few moments, he is more vulnerable- he can't see what's going on around him- probably can't hear past the sound of the wind in his ears.

I know that its highly unlikely that there will be any predators lurking in your living room but cats are instinctual and are the kinda creatures that will always have that little bit of wild ancestry affecting their behaviour.

So somewhere in the back of your cats mind, he subconsciously gravitates to being next to you when he shakes himself as its the safest place to be!

  4. Does he rub his thigh against your leg? Cats do that to tell you something, depending on their mood of the moment. One of my cats likes to do that to tell me she is hungry.

Nothing is wrong with your cat--or you!

  5. You can't know that.  Your cat may shake all the time when you are not around.  Since you are not there to see it you think it only happens when you are around.   These answers are not silly by the way.. Actually they are pretty good considering how vague the question is.

  6. Ha ha ha! I know how you feel. My cat doesn't shake the water off, she comes up to me and rubs herself on my legs so that my trousers absorb the water off her and she gets drier quicker. She always comes up behind me so I can't see her because she knows she shouldn't be wiping herself on me lol.

  7. What do you mean by 'when he shakes?' I have a kitten and he doesn't shake at all, except the one time he got his head and back wet by playing with his water dish. Either way, if you don't like it, teak him not to do it. I clap my hands and say no when my kitten does something I don't like, and he's learning. It's gotten to the point now that he'll look straight at me and then run through my vertical blinds and then run back to me and look at me like 'what are you going to do now?'

  8. Why is he shaking?  Is he wet?  If he is wet, he shouldn't be all the time.  Maybe he just thinks its funny or he wants to dominate you (and cats do, too).  When he comes up to you just push him away.  He'll stop doing it.
