Why does my cat carry my underwear or socks

Question

around in his mouth, from my bedroom ...dumping them in the living room when I'm gone? Does he miss me? Or is he telling me to pick my d@ng stuff up off the floor?

Sometimes my cats play with weird items--socks, bra, potholder, pencil--and bring them to me.  Every time my son comes home from college they bring me his stinky socks.  When my daughter comes home they bring her items of clothes of mine they find on the bathroom floor.  I think part of the explanation is that they are using these items as toys, or pretend prey.  I also think they like bringing us things that smell like other members of the family.  "Here!  This sock smells like Willis and I know you like him!:

My cat does this all the time. She would bring socks to my bedroom door and meow even if I am not home. I know this because I come home to find a pile of socks in front of it XD. I think it's just a way to show you he loves you and misses you
