Why does my cat continue to nurse?

I have a kitten I have had since Father's Day. She was weened when I got her but is still always trying to nurse on either my fiance or me. She will try to nurse on chins, necks, lips, ears or even armpits! She gets very into it, kneeding her paws and purring.

Why do they do this?

  1. I have to agree with the other answers.  my cat will jump up in my lap and knead my belly, and no matter how many times I tell my cat that I just dont have any milk to give, kitty is persistant and happy as could be!

  2. It sounds like she was taken away from her mother too soon.

  3. Your kitten is showing you that she is happy; it's a natural thing for them to do.  It is not uncommon for older cats to do this, too.  My calico (Sasha) did it in her 17th year.    Attached is information with more background:

  4. aw, thats sweet!! its effection and security. she thinks you guys are mom, and thats how they bond, and feel secure. as annoying as it can get, please dont stop her, its effection, and love coming from her.

  5. She was weaned too early. Her sucking reflex was not satisfied.

  6. because the kitten thinks your her mom. especially when you feed them and stuff. i got a kitten and she did that when she was a bby. everymorning she kneeds her paws on me while im laying on my bed
